DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES

David Baum, Psy.D., LICDC holds dual licensure as a Clinical Psychologist (Ohio – #7686) and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (Ohio – #161351).  Dr. Baum is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Xavier University.  Dr. Baum has been trained to provide general psychological services, while specializing in substance use, trauma-related, and mood disorders.  Dr. Baum works from an integrative perspective while employing evidence-based practice in all his clinical work.

In addition to his work at ASAP, Dr. Baum also serves as the program manager of the Dayton VAMC Mental Health Clinic as well as on the multidisciplinary dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) team.  Dr. Baum is also a certified provider of cognitive processing therapy (CPT), an evidence-based practice for helping clients with posttraumatic stress disorder as well as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).  Dr. Baum has training in a number of other evidence-based treatments including:

  • Relapse Prevention (Marlatt & Gordon)
  • Contingency Management
  • Seeking Safety
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression

Dr. Baum’s past training/work experiences include work at Summit Behavioral Health, NorthKey Community Care Child Intensive Services, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Xavier University Psychological Services Center, Talbert House, and Gateways Recovery.

Before beginning his training in psychology, Dr. Baum lived and worked as an actor in New York City.  Primarily a stage actor, Dr. Baum performed in multiple Broadway shows (including the original company of the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line and Disney’s Mary Poppins) and various film and television projects.  Although he considers himself to be “retired” from his past life, Dr. Baum still enjoys singing with his a cappella group, No Promises Vocal Band.
