Parents often ask us to describe the IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) level of care. In this video, Dr. David Baum talks about Intensive Outpatient Programs, and when that might be the right level of care for your child.

Topics Covered

The American Society of Addiction Medicine

ASAP uses the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria in making level of care determinations. ASAM is a national organization that helps to improve the type of care provided to patients. One way they ensure proper care is to delineate levels of care, as well as to provide guidance in matching clients to the appropriate level of care.

What Levels of Care exist?

Levels of care range from moderate interventions such as outpatient counseling and educational groups all the way up to shorter term inpatient stays and long term residential treatment. In the middle, IOP (intensive outpatient programs) and PHP (partial hospitalization programs) allow clients to receive needed intensity of treatment while remaining at home and in their community. ASAP offers individual counseling, a pre-treatment education program, and an IOP level of care. We can also make recommendations for other levels of care if they are more appropriate.

What are the standards for IOP treatment?

IOP treatment meets 3 days per week, for 3 hours each time. ASAP’s TRIP program includes a parent component, drug screens, and individual pull out sessions. We offer a weekday program and a weekend program to better meet your family’s schedule. Teens typically participate in IOP until they have 3 clean drug screens, have gone to at least 8 mutual support meetings, and have attended TRIP through the curriculum cycle.

We are here to help your family.

If you have a teen who is using substances (including alcohol and marijuana), we are here to help you. Call us at 513.792.1272 to speak with one of our intake specialists. They can talk to you about your teen’s issues and help you determine if ASAP will be able to help.
